The second edition (2024) of this score was created to celebrate two key moments. First, the release of the final movement of the Weather Cycle titled Rain and second, the 10th anniversary of the premiere of the first piece in the collection titled Snow. This edition was meant to keep the spirit of the piece intact while cleaning up the score and the orchestration of the piece. The piece has remained essentially the same but now with a standardized instrumentation. There have also been some minor changes in the placement of melodies to better suit ranges of different instruments.

While in the original program notes for this piece I claimed it to be through composed, on further study of the piece it seems like this piece wants to be in a quasi-sonata form with no recapitulation. As the piece can be viewed as through composed or as a sonata form there are four main sections which comprise the piece.

1.     From mm. 1-40 is the introductory fanfare and primary theme, both of which return throughout the piece.

2.        From mm. 40-68 is the secondary theme which slowly builds throughout the rest of the piece.

3.        From mm. 68-98 is a development like section, with fast changes of the themes and more turbulent weather.

4.        From 98-114 is the coda and grand finale of the Weather Cycle

This edition is made with much care and love and is proudly dedicated to Terrisa Ziek, without your guidance and help I wouldn’t have gotten to where I am at now.

Wind (2016) is a through composed piece written in late 2015. It is the last movement in Horvat’s Weather Suite and depicts all the different moods of wind. It starts out with a big gust of wind that slowly turns into a gentle floating ostinato. The melody floats over the ostinato and eventually gets over complicated until the gentle breeze turns in a full wind storm. The music continues back into a gentle breeze until it turns into a more grandiose melody that shows a picture of kites flying in the air supported by a strong warm breeze. It eventually ends and goes back to a more ominous restless breeze that then builds up to the finale where the final gust of winds blows us into the ending.
